Terrain is fundamental to an understanding of soil formation, and of course defines surface water catchments. The images below show the terrain of the Murray-Darling Basin (MDB). Note the Murray and Darling sedimentary basins in the low-lying part of the MDB (blue) and the eastern highlands (green and red).
